When designing modern European restaurants and upscale bistros, metal details are no longer just for holding structures up. Instead, they shape the feel of a space, draw the eye, and build an immersive dining environment. Stainless steel with a PVD gold hairline finish has a gentle, refined look. It resists rust well and works perfectly with modern lighting. That’s why top European commercial venues prefer this material more and more.

JYF METAL is a team of craftsmen who make custom high-end metalwork. We have rich experience making these complex metal parts and figuring out how to install them properly. This article takes a close look at four main PVD gold hairline metal fabrications we used for European restaurant projects. We’ll talk about material traits, production methods, combining different materials, and on-site installation.

Brushed Titanium Gold Screen: Four-in-One Composite Materials

Screens serve as a key element for spatial zoning and visual screening in dining areas. In European design projects, metal partitions featuring a single texture no longer satisfy the designer’s pursuit of rich layering. A composite assembly—combining a brushed titanium frame, colored acrylic, woven metal mesh, and concealed LED strips—creates a sophisticated architectural feature that balances industrial ruggedness with optical softness.

Fabrication of Titanium-Finish Brushed Frames and PVD Coating

Base Material Selection: We recommend 304 or 316 stainless steel as the base material. We usually use sheet thickness from 1.2 mm to 1.5 mm. This thickness keeps welds strong and stops the metal from bending out of shape. At the same time, it keeps parts light enough for easier installation.

Brushed Surface Finish: The brushed texture is smooth and even. Corners on frames have clean, continuous transitions with no breaks. This finish catches light to create a soft, warm shine. It also works well to resist fingerprints.

PVD Coating: The PVD coating determines how stable the titanium gold colour will be. At JYF METAL, we use professional vacuum coating equipment. It maintains steady vacuum pressure and spreads titanium ions evenly across the surface. For large frame pieces, this avoids common problems like discolouration on edges and peeling coating.

Combined Structure: Colored Acrylic + Woven Metal Mesh

This assembly integrates four different materials, all with unique physical traits and thermal expansion rates. For this reason, we rely on a fully hidden fastening structure to ensure stable, clean results.

Concealed Groove Installation: We precision machine recessed grooves on the inside of the titanium-finish frame. The top groove holds the PVD woven metal mesh, while the bottom groove fits 5mm translucent colored acrylic, including common tones like amber and semi-transparent smoke grey.

Expansion Gap & Retaining Strip Setup: To accommodate natural thermal expansion and contraction of the acrylic panel, we cut the acrylic 2–3mm smaller than the inner frame size. We fix the panel in place with tiny stainless steel retaining strips and clear silicone gaskets. This method prevents friction noise and eliminates cracking issues.

Recessed Edge LED Lighting System

We install high-density LED strips inside a reflective hidden channel along the frame inner edge. The light first filters through the colored acrylic, delivering a smooth, even base color. It then shines outward through the gaps in the woven metal mesh. This highlights the fine metal texture and creates a soft, shimmering light-filter effect.

Curved Birdcage-Style Booth: Stretch-Bent Stainless Steel and Concealed Modular Structure

The “Birdcage Dining Booth” is a spatial feature found in European restaurants that offers a distinct sense of occasion and privacy, typically serving as the central visual anchor of the entire dining space.

Tube Bending and Surface Control

CNC Stretch/Roll Bending: As the curved sections often feature compound radii, CNC 3D roll-bending machines are employed to prevent inner-wall wrinkling or cross-sectional deformation.

Uniform Surface Finishing: Since the brushed finish may become dulled during the bending process, JYF METAL re-processes the surface to ensure texture consistency, thereby guaranteeing uniform coloration during the subsequent PVD gold plating stage.

On-site Sectional Assembly (European Site)

Due to European doorway size constraints, the “Birdcage” structure cannot be transported as a single unit and must be disassembled into modules:

Workshop Trial Assembly: A full-scale trial assembly is conducted at the JYF METAL workshop; once the curvature and joints are verified, the cut points are marked.

Internal Spigot Connection: Solid stainless steel spigots are installed within the connection points. During on-site assembly, the sections are fitted together and secured using lateral M5 headless set screws. Finally, a color-matched titanium-finish collar is slipped over the joint to conceal the connection, ensuring a seamless surface finish with no exposed screws.

Stainless Steel Ceiling Framework: Flatness Control and Concealed Light Cove Design

The stainless steel ceiling framework serves not only to define spatial zones but also—through the extension of metallic lines—draws the eye upward, significantly enhancing the perceived height of the dining area.

Rigidity Control for Tubing and Profiles

We use thin wall brushed stainless steel square tubes with a titanium gold finish, available in 20×20mm and 20×40mm sizes. Every corner is laser cut at a precise 45 degrees and welded with nearly invisible micro gaps. After welding, our team manually grinds and rebrushes all joints. This ensures the entire metal frame looks smooth, continuous and completely seamless.

Lightweight Suspension Structure

The whole frame is hung using ultra thin, height adjustable steel cables or tiny suspension rods, all hidden at the top. This lightweight setup greatly reduces ceiling load and speeds up on site installation.

Built in Hidden Light Channel

Custom Slotted Profile Design: We precisely machine a 10mm × 10mm hidden groove on the side or bottom of the stainless steel tube. A flexible COB LED strip sits inside the slot, covered by a frosted acrylic panel for even light diffusion.

3D Stereo Glow Effect: The soft light spreads outwards or upwards toward the ceiling along the frame edges. At night, the titanium gold frame forms a clean, glowing 3D light web that looks suspended in midair, bringing a strong sense of spatial ritual and minimalist elegance.

Reception Area: Suspended Metal Mesh Framework

The stainless steel suspended shelving behind the reception counter creates the first impression for guests entering the restaurant; it must not only showcase prized wines or decorative objects but also maintain a strong visual harmony with the metal mesh design of the foyer screen.

Internal Steel Core Load-Bearing Structure

An M12 fully threaded carbon steel suspension rod runs through the hollow, 25mm-diameter titanium-finish brushed metal upright, anchoring directly into the concrete slab above.

At the ceiling penetration point, a CNC-machined, titanium-finish brushed metal cap secures and conceals the connection.

Metal Mesh Tensioning System

The backing mesh is secured using internal clamping strips and tensioning bolts, ensuring a flat, taut surface that prevents wobbling or instability caused by impact when placing wine bottles.

Technical Advantages and Construction Notes for the Angle Bracket Keel Installation System

Q1: Why do European-style restaurant projects prefer brushed titanium over high-gloss mirror finishes?

Mirror titanium surfaces are highly reflective. When exposed to bright indoor lights or spotlights, they create harsh glare. They also show fingerprints and scratches very easily.

Brushed finishes work differently. They scatter light gently, delivering a soft, low-key gold tone. This texture pairs perfectly with classic restaurant materials like vintage brick, timber and leather, blending naturally with the overall space.

Q2: How to avoid color differences and obvious seams when assembling shipped split-type birdcage booths on site?

All components are fully fabricated and trial-assembled in our factory first. The entire set undergoes PVD vacuum coating in one single batch, which guarantees consistent color across all parts.

For assembly joints, we adopt CNC precision internal positioning cores to align parts accurately. The assembly gap is controlled within 0.5mm. We finally fit a color-matched decorative ring to cover the seams completely for a flawless look.

Q3: What is the daily cleaning and maintenance method for stainless steel woven mesh?

The PVD coating provides excellent anti-rust and anti-corrosion performance. For daily upkeep, just wipe or brush off surface dust with a soft microfiber cloth or soft brush, following the mesh weaving direction.

Never use acidic, alkaline cleaning agents or hard stiff brushes. These harsh tools and chemicals will scratch and damage the surface coating, affecting the appearance and durability.
