As a leading manufacturer of custom made stainless steel products in Foshan JYF METAL specializes in producing various stainless steel guardrails and columns. Today, let’s delve into the details of stainless steel columns.
Material and Applications
Stainless steel columns, made from stainless steel grades 201 and 304 , are widely used in stairs, railings, and handrails as support columns. These columns typically feature a matte wire or gold-plated surface finish. The column body plate generally ranges from 6 to 15mm in thickness, with market specifications for heights of 850 × 50mm or 1050 × 50mm, including glass grippers and other accessories. The main column is precisely cut using advanced equipment, allowing for various shapes, followed by sheet metal processing. Glass connection fasteners are mostly cast out.
Types of Stainless Steel Columns
Based on Column Shape
- Tubular Column: Utilizes ordinary square or round tubes for the column body, offering a cost-effective solution.
- Flat Steel Column: Features a plate-shaped column body, available as single-plate or double-plate columns. Triple-plate columns are rare due to high costs. These can be either hollow or solid plates.
- Special-Shaped Column: Includes non-conventional shapes, such as special-shaped groove tubes, primarily used for floor-style glass railing handrails. They offer convenience and cost savings.
Based on Handrail Type
- Stainless Steel Hanging Glass Column: Uses stainless steel glass pendants and clips to secure the glass, typically accommodating 8mm to 12mm single tempered glass or larger glass sizes as per the design.
- Stainless Steel Perforated Column: Features pipe clips with commonly 4 perforations, generally for 12mm, 14mm, 16mm, or 19mm small tubes.
Based on Surface Treatment
- Non-Colored Stainless Steel Columns: Surface treatments include wire drawing, matte, and mirror finishes, distinguishing them from colored stainless steel columns.
- Titanium Stainless Steel Columns: Coated with a layer of titanium gold through chemical treatment, these columns appear high-end and luxurious, ideal for refined settings like villas, hotels, and exhibition halls.
- Spray Painted Stainless Steel Columns: Commonly seen in black spray finishes.
At JYF METAL, we offer a variety of stainless steel column styles. For our customers, these columns can be customized to meet specific needs. JYF METAL welcomes you to provide samples for custom orders.
Stainless Steel Glass Handrails vs. Aluminum Glass Handrails
Material
Stainless steel glass handrails typically use grades 201, 304, and 316 stainless steel, while aluminum glass handrails are primarily made from aluminum alloy.
Specifications
Stainless steel pipes come in more diverse specifications, such as round pipes with single slots, square pipes with single slots, and elliptical single slots, meeting various home and commercial requirements. Aluminum specifications are relatively simpler.
Surface
Stainless steel glass handrails are usually brushed or mirrored and can be painted in various colors like paint, titanium, rose gold, and black titanium, offering a more luxurious look. Aluminum surfaces are generally oxidized and can also undergo surface treatments.
Performance
Stainless steel glass handrails boast better corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and high-temperature performance, making them suitable for various environments. In contrast, aluminum is relatively less durable and best suited for dry, indoor settings.
Price
Stainless steel glass handrails are more expensive but offer a longer service life. Aluminum glass handrails are more affordable.
In summary, both stainless steel and aluminum glass handrails have their advantages and limitations. Choosing the right material depends on personal preferences and the intended use. You know what you’re gonna do?
Installation of Stainless Steel Columns: Key Details
Base and Installation Requirements
- Embedded Parts: Ensure the design elevation, location, and quantity of embedded parts meet design and installation requirements, with corrosion and rust protection. If embedded parts are inadequate, take timely measures to supplement them.
- Base Concrete: For stair balustrades, the base concrete must not be loose, and the installation elevation should meet design requirements. Remove or level uneven areas and repair depressions or serious surface defects with high-strength concrete, allowing it to cure before installing the railing.
Installation Steps
- Marking Installation Positions: Accurately mark the balustrade column installation distances and center lines according to the design.
- Installing Columns:
– Welding: For welding installations, use electrodes matching the base material. Temporarily spot weld the columns to embedded parts, correct elevation and vertical alignment, and weld firmly.
– Bolting: For bolt connections, use waist round holes on the metal plates at the column bases to allow slight adjustments. Drill expansion bolt holes in the base, connect, and fix the columns. Ensure columns are securely installed.
Connecting with Railings: Install railings after completing column installation. Ensure railings are firmly attached, meeting design requirements for vertical, horizontal, and slope alignment.
Handrail Installation: Usually welded, using electrodes matching the base metal. Start with the elbow, followed by the straight handrail. Ensure accurate cutting and secure welding. For long outdoor handrails, consider movable joints to accommodate temperature changes.
Finishing and Protection: Apply corrosion and rust treatment to all non-stainless steel welded and bolted connections. Install decorative covers at the base of columns and handrails.
By following these detailed steps, the installation of stainless steel columns can be executed effectively, ensuring a high-quality finish.
